Co-Op week 1

#4 Co-Op Culture

My Co-Op takes place at my mentor, Larry Scots residence in El Cajon. A beautiful house with a Tuscan inspired architecture and decoration. At his house, Larry has started his own vineyard with different types of vines and grapes. Most of our experience so far has been learning about each plant/vine and about their different components and most importantly on how to take care of them. One of our tasks has been to help with the grape vines, for example tying up the fruitful fines to a wire above and checking for the number of canes and berries. All while looking at a beautiful backdrop of the mountains and listening to Larrys favorite classical music, which he explained has been proven to help grow vines.

#5 Surprises?

Something that has surmised me and my co-workers has been how much we are learning from Larry, our mentor. He seems to be very experienced with gardening and nature and life overall. He has taught us many things about gardening and how to properly plant different seedlings and their names. Although apart from gardening, some really cool life lessons have also come about. On our first day Larry mentioned a old Chinese saying or lesson: To always leave a room/space better then when you had entered. These lessons and knowledge that he is passing onto us has been really interesting and eye-opening. I am truly glad to be experiencing this fun opportunity.
