Quote: “the field as a whole has continued to treat emotions as unworthy of scientific attention...This distance supported scientists who do painful experiments on animals in believing that animals feel no pain or suffering.” (Masson 44).

Comment: Because emotions is a fact not usually trusted in science, animals emotions often are taken for granted. In various types of laboratories, animals such as mice are painfully tested to see the reaction of their product. The scientists do these experiments on animals because if they feel pain, then they won't be affected by it like a human would. But in the contrary, they are affected just as much! Animals also feel pain, and melancholy and many other horrible emotions during these tests. However, they are not going to complain or tell us what we feel, and because so they are taken for granted.

I'm really enjoying the book so far, it describes the animal's point of view in many topics such as animal testing. In my opinion, animal testing is horrible and should be stopped immediately. If animals feel the same things as humans, and the products are going to be used on humans then why test on animals? Both animals and humans feel emotions and feeling and pain, they are both breathing and living so why do humans have a superior factor.

Comparison: At launch me and my friend discussed people who are vegetarian and vegan. Also how some people are meat-free because they want to save the animals. In my perspective I could never kill a living thing but for food, I believe it is reasonable and the animal would not be dying in vain. But killing or hurting them for “testing” purposes and for anything else other than necessary is to me very wrong.

In biology we are discussing different types of cells and how both human and animals have animal cells. So maybe that's why tests on animals might be very similar to human results because we both have animal cells. However, animals and humans are not 100% equal só tests should be done in humans to acquire a guarantee.

Questions:

  • Why are animals treated with less respect?

  • In animals tests, are the results the same as human results?

  • Are animal emotions the same as human emotions?
